Remorse of Heart (心悔) is a String Quartet piece that dives into the five core "regrets" in life, based on Buddhist teachings. It's a musical reflection of deeply human emotions—shame, fear, detachment, and the pursuit of compassion. Each movement tells a di fferent story, guiding the listener through a journey of self-reflection and spiritual growth.

"Unwilling to Go" is a short documentary that I filmed and composed music for, set on Mount Putuo in China, a place deeply connected to Guanyin, the Bodhisattva of Compassion. It’s a sacred site, rich in history and spiritual meaning, and I wanted the music and sound to help bring that out in a way that felt immersive and personal.

缘起 Paṭicca-samuppāda is a piece deeply inspired by the Buddhist teaching of dependent origination, which speaks to the idea that everything in life is interconnected, arising from a web of causes and conditions. It’s a reminder that nothing exists in isolation. Each moment, each experience, is shaped by countless influences. In this composition, I chose the harp for its ability to echo the sound of the guzheng, a traditional Chinese instrument. The harp, though Western, carries a resonance and warmth that can evoke the essence of the guzheng, blending Eastern and Western sound worlds. Through techniques that bring out delicate glissandos and cascading notes, the music reflects the ebb and flow of life’s interconnectedness—just as a single pluck of a string ripples out, affecting everything around it. I hope this piece feels like a quiet reflection, like watching how a drop of water meets the earth or how the wind carries a leaf. It’s a reminder of how everything touches everything else, in the most natural and gentle way.

“I spent half of my life loving her, half of my life hiding how much I loved her.” This piece is inspired by the book The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo, but also by something more personal. The music moves through intimacy and distance, holding onto that sense of something deeply felt but not always spoken.
